Release pdfSweep 5.0.8

Release date:

pdfSweep is an iText Core add-on to securely redact content from PDFs.

The pdfSweep 5.0.8 release addresses a customer reported issue when redacting within Tagged PDF structure trees and marked content streams.

Improved Tagged PDF Structure Redaction Cleanup

In previous versions, applying redactions to tagged PDFs removed the visible graphical and text content from the page canvas, but could leave corresponding /ActualText and /Alt replacement text entries intact within structure elements (such as /Span tags in the structure tree) or content stream marked content blocks. This allowed redacted text to remain discoverable or copyable via PDF viewers and screen readers.

In pdfSweep 5.0.8:

  • Elements covered or intersected by redaction areas have their /ActualText and /Alt entries safely sanitized/replaced with redaction markers across both content streams and the logical structure tree (StructTreeRoot).

  • Multi-level structure hierarchies are now accounted for, ensuring /ActualText and /Alt attributes defined at higher structural levels are evaluated and redacted when child content falls within the redaction zone.

  • Visual and structural redactions for text, paths, images, and associated structure tree entries are fully synchronized to guarantee that confidential text cannot be recovered.
