Release pdfRender 1.0.0
We are proud to announce the first release of pdfRender, a new add-on for iText 7 Core which enables you to render PDFs as images. You can generate images from specific pages (for instance to create cover page thumbnails for books), or multiple pages to multiple images.
pdfRender 1.0.0 supports rendering images in BMP, JPEG, JPEG 2000, PNG and TIFF formats, and is extremely fast in comparison to other PDF to image solutions. To give you an idea of performance, we rendered a 4.6 MB 130-page PDF to images in various formats, on a laptop equipped with an Intel i5-8350U processor:
Image format | Time (seconds) | File size (megabytes) |
---|---|---|
JPEG | 20.41 | 5.15 |
PNG | 22.53 | 14.2 |
BMP | 1811.53 | 173 |
TIFF | 24.82 | 14.1 |
JPEG 2000 | 38.16 | 11.7 |
pdfRender is a closed source add-on and is currently only available for Java (a .NET solution is coming soon). You will require an iText 7 Core license, a pdfRender license and version 3.0.6 of the license key library.
You can download pdfRender from our artifactory here and the API docs can be viewed here.
