If iText is free why do I have to pay for it?

 A common misperception is that open source software is free. Open source software is often better than proprietary closed source software because an active community continually contributes improvements and innovation to an opensource project.  iText’s dual licensing approach brings the best of both worlds: the innovation and improvements from our open source project community (including iText developers) and the ability for us to legally license usage of the code commercially and offer the full benefit of maintenance and support services for fully vetted commercial releases.
